FULL HORIZONS |SIGMA|

FULL HORIZONS is a comprehensive program that defines and documents the 3 horizons of an organization so it can be better guided in the successful pursuit of its short, medium and long-term horizons.

This program is designed to provide a detailed strategic roadmap and a system of complete knowledge about an organization’s horizons.

Objectives

This program aims to develop all of the organization’s horizons by considering this 3 horizons model as a maturity model.

This program allows you to:

  • Understanding the organization’s horizons
  • Master the particularities of each horizon
  • Detect each horizon’s challenges, risks and benefits
  • Activate the synergy of the 3 horizons

With who?

1st level

Founders, shareholders/owners, C-level, senior managers.

2nd level

Middle managers and those responsible for innovation, strategy and business development.

The 3 horizons

As a reminder, the 3 Horizons model was created by McKinsey (1999) and redeveloped by Sharpe (2013) for the purposes of foresight. Each horizon is unique and their approaches, methods, and tools are generally reserved for each. This explains, for example, the difficulty, if not the impossibility, of looking at the long term with short-term tools.

Horizon 1

Horizon 1, is the horizon of the short-term core business that needs to be protected and improved, etc. This is Sharpe’s managerial horizon.

Horizon 2

Horizon 2* is the horizon of emerging activities to be explored and exploited. It is the medium-term horizon, that of transition. This is Sharpe’s entrepreneurial horizon..

Horizon 3

Horizon 3 is the horizon of possible activities to research and develop in order to eventually exploit them. This is the long-term horizon, that of Sharpe’s visionary.

*NOTE ON HORIZON 2. Horizon 2 represents the organization’s transition horizon, i.e., how it transitions from Horizon 3. These efforts are referred to as entrepreneurial in nature. This horizon also represents emerging technologies (AI, for example) and how an organization positions itself in its adoption efforts. Will it be early or late, according to an S-Curve?
